When we think of food in the garden we often visualize rows of annual crops in raised beds which while fantastic but is only half the story. Many perennial and some annual edible plants can be used to great effect in the garden without making it look like a veggie patch.
This lemon grass has thrived in this shady spot and regularly sends out highly textures seed. It isn't a nice plant to touch and is quite tall so put it to the rear of a bed, just make sure you can get to it to harvest it.
Strawberries are great, they are easy to grow and look fantastic in this blue pot on the verandah. Just top the soil up with some extra nutrients every year.
Flat leaved parsley gone to seed with a background of lavender, I really love the colours and textures it creates. I leave some herbs to self seed every year.
These garlic chives are green all year round and have these striking seed heads after a display of white flowers.
